Tenute Guicciardini Strozzi

The history of Cusona is long, passing from Niccolò Machiavelli to the marriage of the descendants of the Strozzi Guicciardini family to the Marlborough family of London, the family of Winston Churchill. From the begging of the nineteenth century Francesco Guicciardini, married to Luisa Strozzi, mayor of Florence, minister of agriculture and foreign affairs, made Cusona a model, avant guard, business of national significance.

Many famous guests have stayed at Villa Cusona such as Kennedy, Nureyev, Tony Blair, Bocelli, a list too long to write.

Thanks to Prince Girolamo Strozzi, who began the commercialisation of wines throughout the world and started the expansion of wine production in the Tuscan Maremma region, with the Bolgheri,Scansano, Montemassi and Pantelleria estates with the production of diverse types of wine.

Among the most prestigious labels, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Spumante,and "Grappa" made with Vernaccia grapes and memorable red wines such as Sòdole and Millani, made to celebrate 1000 years of the estate.

The Cusona Estate is not only a cellar, thanks to the commitment of Natalia and Irina Guicciardini Strozzi it is a tourist destination for the different activities that are on offer.

From the hunt for the White Tuscan Truffles in the Senese hills, with 15 hectares of specifically assigned controlled truffle beds on the estate, to hunting activities, that start from the third Sunday of September until 31stJanuary, with pheasant hunting with pheasants breed on the estate and partridges that are native to the territory. Both activities are personal supervised by Irina.

There are guided tours of the fascinating historic cellars, with wine tasting, of the family museum where antique rural machinery is on display, including a Fiat tractor from 1919 the only existing example, given as a gift from the firm to the family, as at the time it was considered an innovative machine.
