The Florentine workshop in the ancient tower-house since 1950

Via delle Terme (Thermal Bath Street) is a street In the historic centre of Florence, between Por Santa Maria and Piazza Santa Trinita. Its name recalls the ancient Roman baths, once located here and which received water from Mount Morello. Despite the nineteenth-century renovations and the destruction during the Second World War, it retains its evocative middle Ages atmosphere.

Here there are some examples of the medieval architecture, the ancient, so-called, tower-houses, such as the Torre dei Guidi, still in a perfect state of preservation. Not so far, at number 13, on the fourth floor of a sixteenth-century tower house, that overlooks roofs and monuments of Florence, is located the jewellery workshop Massai goldsmiths.

Founded in 1950 by the Florentine master goldsmith Franco Massai, today the firm is lead with passion by his sons that create unique handmade jewels of medium and high jewellery, still following the ancient techniques of the Florentine goldsmith tradition.

Entering their workshop means totally immersing oneself in the past, at the time when Florentine goldsmith art was all over the world renowned, also thanks to artists like the famous Florentine goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini.

In the Massai Goldsmith’s workshop, the ancient techniques of embossing, chasing and engraving come alive for the joy of those who appreciate the unique pieces of fine jewellery.
