Valentina Caprini – The Lightness of Metal
In the heart of Florence, among the streets where art and craftsmanship have intertwined for centuries, Linfa Jewelry Studio came to life in 2021 — the creative workshop founded by Valentina Caprini, artist, goldsmith, and teacher.
The name “Linfa” (meaning sap in Italian) already tells much about her work: a subtle energy, a vital flow that runs through matter, transforming it into something new, alive — in a constant dialogue between tradition and experimentation.
Valentina’s artistic journey stems from a desire to explore the expressive potential of wire — a simple, seemingly fragile line capable of holding within it an entire universe of possibilities.
Raised in a family with a strong feminine tailoring tradition, she brings a textile sensibility into the world of goldsmithing: weaving threads of metal and fabric into light, organic compositions where the material itself seems to breathe.
Her technique is as poetic as it is innovative. Using a sewing machine, Valentina stitches thousands of meters of thread onto water-soluble fabrics, which she then cuts and layers, revealing an ethereal structure — transformed into wearable art. Each piece is unique, fragile and strong at the same time, like a memory sewn into light.
Alongside her contemporary experimentation, Valentina is also a deep connoisseur of Italian filigree, an ancient goldsmithing art that intertwines fine threads of gold and silver into intricate, precious patterns.
In her hands, this tradition is reborn: the filigree is fire-soldered within 3D-printed structures, merging ancient craftsmanship and digital technology into a radically new visual language.
Since 2015, Valentina has been sharing her knowledge through international courses and workshops — including the “Contemporary Italian Filigree Course” for goldsmiths, and “Twist It”, open to artists from all disciplines.
Through her teaching, she promotes filigree as a cross-disciplinary technique — one that transcends the boundaries of traditional jewelry to spark new conversations between art, matter, and innovation.
In each of her works, you can feel her desire to rediscover the lightness of metal, to make it flow like fabric, and to give voice to the thread — that subtle line connecting generations, hands, and ideas.
