The smell of mulled wine, the coloured flashing lights accompanied by classic Christmas music, frame the small stands, where Christmas decorations, regional gastronomical produce, handcrafts, souvenirs and gifts are sold.

The tradition comes from XIV century Germany, in Italy the first and most renowned markets were in Bolzano.

Today they can be found throughout the peninsula, everywhere in fact, they are tourists destinations for all nationalities whether they are in the typical mountain setting or elsewhere in the country.

An unmissable attraction for tourists of all ages, both adults and children, impossible to resist the charm and magic of these places, where it is possible to find, above all, exclusive artisan local products, handmade articles, gastronomical specialities and the typical artisan nativity statues or tree decorations and obviously children's toys.

Refreshments stands are also present, they often offer local specialties from street food, mulled wine, sandwiches ,sausages, including German "wūrstel".

Often the markets are open in the evening either for the occasional evening or for the entire Christmas period.
