84 OI magazine CANAZEI It is considered the capital of snow sports in Val di Fassa, thanks above all to its strategic position surrounded by the Dolomite peaks of the Sassolungo, the Sella Group and the Marmolada. In Canazei, as in the rest of the Val di Fassa and the areas around the Sella massif, Ladin is spoken. The inhabitants are very attached to their traditions for this reason there are numerous representations and festivals aimed at handing down the Ladin culture and customs. Canazei is certainly the main tourist resort of the valley; the warm hospitality of its inhabitants and the countless accommodation facilities, equipment, services and the extended tourist season make it the ideal destination for a holiday full of fun, sport and relaxation. The village of Canazei also offers a vast ski area accessible thanks to the Canazei-Pecol cable car which directly reaches the Belvedere area, a sunny basin at the foot of Sass Becè which offers perfect slopes for those taking their first steps on the snow. There are very wide groomed slopes with varying gradients from the red of Sass Becè, served by a 6-seater chairlift, to the blue Belvedere accessible by the Toé cable car. PASSO SELLA Passo Sella is one of the most famous passes in the Dolomites; just 12 km from Canazei, it connects Val di Fassa to Val Gardena. From here you can enjoy a unique panorama, the landscape is dominated by the Sella Towers, the Mesules barrier, and the Sassolungo Group, reaching an altitude of 3,181 m. The area is perfect for hiking or skiing on the Col Rondella slopes, connected to the Belvedere ski area and the famous Sellaronda ski carousel. The majestic Sellar Group is one of the favourite destinations for hikers who love the ascent to Piz Boè, (3,152 m), to enjoy the view of some of the most popular Dolomite peaks.
